Ryan Beatty

Ryan Beatty is an American singer and songwriter working across alternative R&B, indie pop and indie folk. Born Ryan Kevin Beatty on September 25, 1995, in Clovis, California, he is now based in Los Angeles. He first drew attention as a teenager posting covers to YouTube, one of them a Bruno Mars song that passed six million views, and released the EP Because of You in 2012 while fronting an AT&T anti-texting campaign. He has since described that period as creatively constrained by his first label and management, which he parted with in 2013 amid legal disputes. Beatty re-emerged in 2016, came out as gay, and began working with the Los Angeles collective Brockhampton and with Tyler, the Creator, appearing on records by both. His debut album Boy in Jeans arrived in 2018, followed by Dreaming of David in 2020. Calico, released April 28, 2023 through Elektra in the United States and Atlantic in the United Kingdom, marked a turn toward spare, acoustic, folk-leaning songwriting; its nine tracks were written and recorded in California and co-produced by Beatty with Ethan Gruska, largely at Valentine Recording Studios and Shangri-La, with contributions from drummer Matt Chamberlain, guitarist Dylan Day, saxophonist Sam Gendel, string arranger Rob Moose and Justin Vernon of Bon Iver. The record drew a five-star review from The Guardian and placed on several 2023 year-end lists. In 2024 Beatty co-wrote four songs on Beyonce's Cowboy Carter, which won the Grammy for Album of the Year. His fourth album, Sweet Fortune, was released on June 26, 2026 and includes a collaboration with Clairo. He tours as a headliner in theatre-scale rooms, with dates including the Neptune Theatre in Seattle and The Underground in Charlotte.
